  1. I’m adhd asf and I forget things even with a list 😭 I meal prep I kind of have too since I’m gluten and lactose intolerant 😅

  2. Exactly. Cream cheese and eggs. Or yogurt is a staple. You can make beef stroganoff smothered creamed chicken and so on

  3. Sorry im not american and im really confused as to how where you able to just walk right out of that store without scanning and paying 😳

  4. Well, shopping at what’s essentially a Whole Foods is going to give me anxiety for the prices alone. Sure, they have some stuff I’ll take over a Safeway or Krogers because they’re much much better quality for almost the same price, but a coconut oil for 7.69? I’m heading to Trader Joe’s for that: same quality, a few bucks less.
My biggest thing with shopping videos like this is the recommendation for a shopping list. Yes, of course do that – it saves you money (use something like Google Keep for that – syncs from your computer to your phone). But only do that after checking the weekly ads of the stores in the area. Over here on the other side of the country Wednesday is the day when new offers come out. I always check the ads first and make a shopping list based on the best prices I can find. So essentially I write down things I want during the week and then I modify or amend the list when the ads are out (some stores publish their upcoming ads on Tuesday on their websites). Also make sure you have the membership deals – like with the card for Safeway.
I always think of recipes based on what’s on sale and don’t fall into the “just go to one store” trap. Squander an hour or two of TV time and go for the sale items in a few stores. For example over here Safeway is a rather expensive store that even Whole Foods can compete with on some items. They do have a few fantastic sale items though – usually meat. So if you buy like 5lbs of top sirloin you get it for 2.99/lbs. Good deal – freeze what you can’t use. I go in, buy the deal and leave – no looking around or buying other stuff which is almost always a lot more expensive than at the next store.
I usually invest the time to shop 4 stores in my neighborhood. Saves me a lot. After a while you know which items are cheaper at which store because their sales patterns repeat. That knowledge is worth at least 4 digits a year.

  5. A pro home cook buying bagged granola? It’s so easy and quick to make your own. Way cheaper and better, and can be done exactly the way you want it in terms of nutrition, flavor, and texture

  6. Stop shopping with Amazon. Stop supporting their business model. They’re putting people out of work and killing the ones who they employ. Surprised to see you on the side of Dr Evil

  7. Digital list! Whenever I have a meal idea or run out of some thing in the fridge or the pantry, I add it to a running list that I have on my phone. It’s nothing fancy just a Notes app. But half the time I’ll forget a paper list. Forgetting my phone is pretty rare. also if I put it on the list and maybe this week I’m not going to buy walnut oil, it’s still on there for next week if I have the budget and need

  8. I appreciate my mom for teaching me how to shop. One thing she taught is to go and talk to people be friendly with staff. You learn a lot that is going on. I prefer small stores but that is not always possible. I like to make my menu with Pinterest recipes. I try to find at least three for the week. Then if I get there and one item is gone or looks horrible I go with the other two options. Oh and one more thing….my mom always said when you grocery shop, put up groceries and cleaned the kitchen…you always take yourself out for a treat after all that work…even if simple treat.

  9. Shop the non-perishable stuff before the dairy or frozen foods! You want milk to stay refrigerated as long as possible, and if you put that in your basket and then walk around the grocery store for 15 min, that milk is warming up to room temp and will go bad faster! If you want to do produce first, fine, that stuff is mostly at room temp in the store. Then do all the aisles that aren’t refrigerated. Scope out the frozen stuff, then grab your refrigerated stuff, and finally grab the frozen stuff — and put that right next to the refrigerated stuff in your cart to help that stuff stay cool. Then head directly to checkout.

  10. I’m a food horder. There should be a support group like the AA for people like me. I panic if I don’t have multiple dozens of various tinned goods, tomatoes, chickpeas, coconut milk……I live on my own and still cook for a horde. I have freezers overflowing with cooked meals and foods bought on sale. I live on coffee and chocolate interspersed with the odd Indian or Italian as long as I can make it in my Instantpot. Supermarket shopping is my addiction 😫 😩
